If you pull your skin and it quickly pops back into place... then it is very elastic. If you pull your skin and it slowly sinks back, then it is NOT elastic. Genes are the biggest factor in determining the skin's elasticity. Also, as you age your skin loses elasticity, thereby forming wrinkles. There are many other factors that can cause a loss of elasticity in the skin that include:

  • Smoking - An established fact that smoking contains substances that negatively effect collagens, increase breakdowns and diminish nutrients delivered to the skin.
  • Sun Exposure - UV radiation is detrimental to your skin because it destroys collagen directly.
  • Stress - releases hormones that cause inflammation, destroying collagen and elastins as well.
